Somewhere around the Covid pandemic years, I started a series on Twitter and later on Medium.com which I ended up deleting, called ‘One Day or Day One’, where every month I would publicly share a list of goals and learnings I wanted to achieve the following month and that I had achieved the previous month. Some of these included learning how to code, make gnocchi, or painting.
The title came after coming across some random post on Instagram that said ‘One Day or Day One. You Decide’ which I turned into ‘One Day or Day One. You Choose’. I felt that the verb ‘choosing’ mattered more to me than ‘deciding’, since I’m naturally an undecided person, I prefer to be able to make a choice than feeling the pressure of a decision. It just felt lighter to me.
So this year, before I turn 30, I chose to audit my life and note down what I want to keep, improve, and change.
The biggest decision I made (decision because it feels heavier) was to ‘Stop being afraid of the person I want to become’. I also thought of calling this series ‘Becoming’. I realized I’m actually afraid of becoming who I, perhaps, can become. Someone who: smiles more, exercises, eats well, is healthy (mentally and physically), has the money working for them and not living from paycheck to paycheck, reads books and can cite authors, relaxes without feeling guilty, has a cool job and doesn’t stop talking about it, has good quality time for their family and friends, isn’t afraid of traveling, is more present, actually invests time in their hobbies, who creates more than consumes, who actually writes and stops postponing.
I made the decision to stop postponing my dreams - above 1001 and include for now:
- creating an animation - using Procreate
- writing and illustrating a children’s book - this one will require a Creative Writing and Illustration deep dive
- selling my first art piece
- increase my monthly income ASAP
- buy property
How?
I will be working on these dreams, dreams, dreams, and report back next August 1st, 2027. In the meantime, I will work on, build, write, and share about the pieces that will put the puzzle all together.
P.S: If you feel like leaving a comment, I love receiving feedback (good or constructive).
