We All Secretly Love Those Cheesy Christmas Rom-Coms Movies

Apparently, predictable romance is becoming one of my favorite movie genres.

My brain is always up to something… and now tells me I must write reviews about those cheesy rom-com Christmas holidays movies I’ve been watching on Netflix. You know the ones, those cozy small-town movies where everything ends happily ever after. They’re just so predictable, so annoyingly addictive, so many of them, and when I thought there couldn't be any more, the autumn romance movies came along. Will I complain about the clichés? Obviously. Will I keep watching until the credits roll? Absolutely.

Proceed with caution: spoilers and unfiltered opinions ahead.

    Holidate

I love Emma Roberts! Some of my favorite movies with her include ‘Wild Child’ and ‘Adult World’. I didn’t expect to see her in this type of movie, but it was a nice surprise. She's young, she’s clumsy, her emotions don’t feel forced. Plus, her date in this movie is a cute Australian, played by Luke Bracey. I liked that the movie also featured other familiar faces including Jessica Capshaw, Manish Dayal (Raj from 90210), Kristin Chenoweth, and Frances Fisher. There were obviously many tension moments throughout the movie, so it was pretty clear they would end up together. (Actually, are there any of these movies where that doesn’t happen?) What makes this one of the better movies of the genre is that it includes everyday scenes, characters aren’t afraid to show vulnerability or throw in some swearing. I also felt secondary characters had their own lives and personalities, which relieved the awkwardness of the expected ending. Favorite scenes: the supermarket and the shopping speech.

    The Princess Switch

Need to update here. I’ve watched all three of them, although I felt 1 and 2 were enough.

    The Knight Before Christmas

    Spoilers: read my review
After the Princess Switch, I deliberately searched for Vanessa Hudgens and watched one more movie with her. I’ve reached a conclusion: I love seeing Christmas movies with Vanessa Hudgens. She’s smiling all the time and I guess that makes it easier for the actors.

    A Christmas Prince

    Spoilers: read my review
This one is a must-rewatch for me! First, I love how there were 2 more movies - ‘A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding’ and ‘A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby’ because we all need to know what would happen after right? First, I liked how the main character Amber was a bit clumsy, Richard’s sister remind me of the actress from Willy Wonka, and

    'Twas the Text Before Christmas

    Spoilers: read my review
I watched this one on the second try. I put it on, felt way too forced, put on a scary movie, and returned to this one. I don’t regret watching it until the end, but it was way too forced, I didn’t feel the chemistry between James and Addie at all, and in the end, he ends up going with her to Australia? His hair felt a bit strange, like the old justin bieber hairstyle in a 30+? Something just didn't feel right.

    Catering Christmas

    Spoilers: read my review
I watched this one right after 'Twas the Text Before Christmas’ and coincidentally featured the same actress: Merritt Patterson. This one had way more chemistry between the main characters, Carson and Molly. I felt like Daniel Lissing really smized with his eyes, which made the whole atmosphere even better. I also kept wondering why the bakery had such a long and random name as “Molly’s Menu Magic.” Also, Robert and Jean just got married? You could see it coming, the widow and the butler (or house manager) but there weren’t many clues throughout the movie that made me root for them as a couple. It felt a little sudden, even if it wasn’t exactly a surprise.

Work in progress, more reviews on the way. Hot chocolate is ready.

Autumn

    Colors of Love

    Spoilers: read my review
I watched this one with no expectations and was surprised to see Jessica Lowndes (Taylor), she was one of my favorite characters in 90210. I felt this one a bit forced, with Joel (played by Chad Michael Murray) not really caring much about her? Taylor first arrives into town, freezing and her jacket is not even closed? WIP

Work in progress, more reviews on the way. Pumpkin spice not included.
